Oct 27, 2012·According to Google, stearic acid has a molecular weight of 284.5 and lye is very close to 40. If I calculated correctly, a 1:1 molar ratio means you need 7.1 grams of stearic acid for every gram of lye. Mixing them is something you do VERY CAREFULLY, since acid-base reactions evolve a lot of heat and frequently spatter everywhere when they do it.
